Nobody Makes Me Bleed My Own Blood

The above meme is taken from the movie, Dodgeball. (It should be noted that this post is not in any way an endorsement of said movie.) While intended to be humorous, this quotable line gave me pause when I came across it the other day.

I couldn’t help but think about our Lord. He, in so many words (and in a much more serious context), said much the same thing!

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep...My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” (John 10:11, 17-18)

Nobody made Jesus suffer and die for your sins!

Nobody forced Him to sweat as it were great drops of blood in the garden...(Luke 22:44)

Nobody bent Him against His will to endure the terrible scourging He experienced...(John 19:1)

Nobody made Him comply with the nails being pounded into His hands and His feet...(Psalm 22:16)

No, He went through all of that because He loves you THAT much!

Jesus could have, at any point, decided that all the pain was not worth it. He could have, at any time, called for twelve legions of angels to come and deliver Him from so much as dashing His foot against a stone (cf. Matthew 26:53; 4:6).

But, He didn’t...

Christ knew that without His perfect, sinless, sacrifice, we would all be eternally condemned due to the wages of our sins (Romans 6:23; 3:23).

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

How can you be saved through His blood? It is really quite simple. Consider...

“And having been perfected, He [Christ] became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him...” (Hebrews 5:9)

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” (Jesus - Mark 16:16)

Have you expressed your appreciation and rendered obedience to the One who willingly bled His own blood for you? (John 14:15; 1 John 4:19)
