Trusting in the Lord

“Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. And the people grumbled against Moses, saying. ‘What shall we drink?’ And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them” (Exodus 15:22-25).

Trusting in God is not a one time choice. Trusting God is an on-going decision that is made every step of life. For the Israelites, it was easy to trust God when He performed miracles and delivered them from their enemies. When God performed these miracles, their faith was strong, but short lived. As times got difficult, the people began grumbling and losing trust in God.

Though we often look down on the Israelites for their up and down faith in the Lord, are we not guilty of the same? We trust in God when things go great and we see Him working in our lives. However, when times are rough and our faith is tested, our trust no longer flows steadily.

Perhaps we need to examine our faith at all times and determine how strong we truly are.

“But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God’” (Psalm 31:14).
