Take Your Sins to God

“Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer,” (Psalm 32:1-4).

The Bible makes it rather clear that sin is a transgression against God, ultimately separating ourselves from the divine source of strength and power. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” “but your iniquities have made a separation and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear,” (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:2). Further, it is made clear to us that this transgression against God is punishable to eternal death, “for the wages of sin is death…,” (Romans 6:23).

Despite knowing this, many people still try very hard to hide their sin. Of course… to no avail. This is what David finds out after a sin in his life that he tried to hide. In his writing of Psalm 32, we see David as one who is distraught and suffering greatly because of the sin that is in his life. “For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long,” (Psalm 32:3).

The Lord does not take kindly to sin in our lives. Truthfully, if we have any desire of avoiding eternal punishment, we should not take kindly to sin ourselves. David encourages the readers of Psalm 32 to “be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” (Psalm 32:11). This was said right after saying “many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord,” (Psalm 32:10).

Everybody has sinned. However, this is not an excuse to keep the sin in your life. David found that holding onto the sin was miserable and encouraged all to confess their transgressions to the Lord. David may have been a man who made a lot of mistakes, but David knew where to go to make it all better. God is still there today to receive you and forgive you of your sins. However, one day it will be too late.
