No Place Like Home

During the summer it can be difficult to have a full crowd on a Sunday. It’s likely that at least one family is traveling on vacation. Whether it be to the mountains, the plains, or the oceans, people love to go on vacation during the summer. But, at the end of most vacations there is always one desire. That desire is to be home. Whether you love traveling or could do without it, there is one thing that almost everyone could agree on, there is no place like home.

For many, home represents a place of warmth, love, and security. It’s where we find rest, create memories, and feel at peace. A true home is more than just a place of shelter, it is a warm and inviting place where there are strong relationships. But, as Christians, we know that our ultimate home is not on this earth, it is in heaven, a place that perfectly embodies these ideals and much more.

In our earthly homes, we may find seek and refuge from the world. However, problems still arise within our walls. Heaven, on the other hand, promises a peace that surpasses any understanding we may have. We are told that “He (God) will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4 ESV). Our home in heaven is a place where all suffering and sorrow is not known, we will only experience joy and tranquility for all eternity.

One of the greatest and most reassuring aspects of our home in heaven is that it is being prepared by Jesus Christ. Jesus told His disciples that “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:23 ESV). These words help us remember the personal care and love with which our home is being prepared.

There are so many different aspects of that home to look forward to. We will forever have joy in God’s presence (Revelation 22:3-4), we will be reunited with loved ones (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), and we will be at home forever. Truly, there is no place like home.

“For we know that if the tent, which is our earthly home, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (2 Corinthians 5:1 ESV).
