Road Sign Religion
While traveling down the road one day, years ago, and meditating on a sermon I had been working on, it occurred to me that the signs along the road were actually preaching their own sermon. You may find this odd, but consider what these signs say:
ONE WAY: There is only “one way” to be saved (Jn. 14:6; Matt. 7:21-23)
KEEP RIGHT: Those in Christ must remain faithful (Rev. 2:10; cf. Matt. 25:21, 23)
MEN WORKING: Christians must maintain good works (Eph. 2:10; Titus 3:8, 14)
ROAD NARROWS: The way (path) to heaven is a narrow road (Matt. 7:13-14)
ROUGH ROAD AHEAD: Likewise, that narrow road is a “difficult” way (Matt. 7:14)
CALL: In this modern age of cell phones, this sign is less known now, but one would often see one of these along the interstate, indicating that there was a payphone ahead. If during our “journey” we need assistance from God above, we need to “call on Him” through prayer (Phil. 4:6; 1 Pet. 5:7; cf. Rom. 12:12; 1 Thess. 5:17)
NO U-TURN: If at any time we “turn back” we will not, and cannot, go to heaven (Lk. 9:62; Gal. 4:9; Heb. 6:1-6; 2 Pet. 2:20-22; cf. Gal. 5:7)
WRONG WAY: Furthermore, if we travel in the wrong direction we will be in great spiritual peril (Prov. 4:14-15; 2 Peter 3:14-18; cf. Jas. 5:19-20)
STOP: All who travel in the wrong direction are admonished to stop and turn back to the Lord, lest they die (Ezek. 18:30-32; cf. Jn. 8:11)
DEAD END: If we will not cease from sin, our end will be a “dead end” (i.e., we cannot be saved – Prov. 14:12; 16:25; cf. Rom. 6:23)
ALL TRAFFIC MUST EXIT: There will come a day when all “travelers” will exit (in death) the road they are on (Heb. 9:27)
WEIGH STATION: We all will be “weighed in the balance” (judged) and give an account for how we lived our lives (2 Cor. 5:10; cf. Dan. 5:27)
REST AREA AHEAD: Those found faithful will find eternal rest (Rev. 14:13; 1 Thess. 4:13-18)
Also, the GUARDRAILS on the sides of the road remind us that God’s word is in place to keep us from spiritual disaster (cf. Deut. 5:32-33).
So, friends, as you travel along in your respective lives, keep your eyes on the road and be sure to follow the signs.
