“Lord, Save Me!”
Matthew 14:25-32 recounts the miraculous moment when Jesus walked on water. As His disciples saw Him approaching on the sea, they were terrified, but He reassured them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” In response, Peter said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Jesus simply said, “Come.”
In an astonishing display of faith, Peter stepped out of the boat and walked toward Jesus. But then, something went wrong. As he noticed the strong wind, fear took hold of him, and he began to sink. Desperate, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately, Jesus reached out, caught him, and said, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Peter’s experience serves as a powerful lesson for us. While we can never miraculously walk on water today, we are often guilty of having “little faith.” When life is calm, trusting God seems easy. But when the storms of life rage around us, we sometimes take our eyes off the Lord and begin to sink in fear and despair. Friends, the key is simple: never take your eyes off Jesus. When trials arise, be even more diligent in keeping your focus on Him. As Hebrews 12:2-3 reminds us: “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith... for consider Him... lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.”
